Members of Astor Playa—which includes several TOPP employees— are using OpenPlans to coordinate their 50+ person art theme camp for the Burning Man festival. They use OpenPlans to handle their mailing lists, keep track of crucial information, track their progress, and share images of the work.
Burning Man is an arts festival in the Nevada desert. Every year, nearly 40,000 people attend this experiment in self-reliance and cooperative creativity.
The Astor Playa team is building a camp inspired by Astor Place, a landmark public space in New York City. An important part of city history, Astor Place is home to The Public Theater, Cooper Union, key social justice events, and It could be a vibrant public space, but Astor Place is currently dominated by criss-crossing lanes of traffic. The smog and danger result in underuse by pedestrians and creative types. AstorPlaya's project is to create an Astor Place that people can enjoy together.
