Project Scope
Create an organizational structure for working groups to tailor Plone for use in specific industry segments under the auspices of the Plone Foundation.
This wiki is for everyone to participate. Your contributions strengthen us all.
Context
As of November 2008, the Plonekit project has stalled. The cause may be in trying to invent a process out of thin air, without reference to existing projects that provide examples of successful execution of Plone Foundation support for an industry segment, e.g., PloneGov. Plonekit is not dead, so, in the next iteration try for...
Refinement and redirection based on success:
The page defining deliverables is very clear and useful for future work. Based on that, we can:
- Select an existing market segment that has had success in deploying Plone, e.g., local government (i.e., PloneGov) or education. Document processes used to date that resembles the plonekit goals.
- Develop a proposal to the Plone Foundation outlining strategies for collaborative development of market segment strategies, anticipated outcomes, contacts, and DARCI analysis.
- Document the organizational structure and bylaws.
- Specify the community's communications channels.
- Collect intellectual property agreements. Recommend strongly that contributors agreement to Plone Foundation be used and that all rights are held by the Plone Foundation.
- Establish regular strategy meetings to prioritize application development milestones and organization development. These should include remote and face-to-face meetings and sprints.
- Establish methods for annual reporting to the Plone Foundation.
- Organize application sprints, birds of a feather and presentations for the Plone Conference and symposia.
- Develop a marketing strategy to increase adoption of Plone in the target market segment.
- Abstract those methods and processes that support a successful project and, if possible, identify the secret sauce that is key to success, and give it a name. Document the elements of those processes and strategies thought to make the project successful. Interviews with champions and key players is essential.
- Adapt #1 to a new market segment:
- Choose a new market segment; contact a champion or champions from both the Plone Foundation and the market segment. Begin the process of developing the relationships and seek feedback and suggestions from champions and other segment participants.
- Adapt plonekit for new market segment and generalize to be compatible with existing plonekit plans.
- Iterate and communicate successes and failures.
