- About
- After building a content management practice for a larger consulting firm, I founded and help manage Contextual, a firm that focuses specifically on open source content management and custom web site development projects, as well as helping clients with assessments and evaluations of various commercial and open source CMS tools. Contextual is based just north of Chicago and has clients in various industries, such as government, large and small non-profit and for-profit associations, and Fortune 500 corporations in areas such as the entertainment and pharmaceutical industries. We tend to focus less on small brochure-ware type sites and more on projects/sites that require the things that a solid content management system brings to the table: namely, structured content type definitions and metadata (taxonomy), custom functionality and integration points with other systems such as membership management tools, structured workflow (content approval processes), and projects that allow us to contribute back to the open source community with product improvements.

- Open source community collaboration and software development Improving Plone and its story as it relates to enterprise-scale implementations. Topics such as clustering, multiple mount points, capability of static and dynamic content publishing models. Improving Plone's ability to handle Web 2.0 type capabilities (many are associated with 'member-based' websites), such as forums integration with listservs, blogs, event registration, mailing list and RSS subscriptions, email campaign management, online commerce integration (Contextual is a PloneGetPaid funding partner) and shared calendaring.
