Rollie's Design Philosophy for Burning ManBuilding
things for the project is going to require a fair amount of work and effort so should be carefully thought out. I am trying to make as much as I can using mass production processes (like plaster casting, etc) and using materials that can be disassembled and burned rather than brought back—materials that have been recycled (like FreshDirect boxes) and thus don't have to be payed for. It is probably best to avoid overly complicated technical solutions and focus on low-tech materials that don't require much setup and won't break down in the playa environment. You'd be amazed the cool things you can do with cardboard, paper tubes, plaster, and a variety of heat- or light-sensitive paints.
Nick W's Super cool Burning Man audio/video project
Hey all. I'm working on an idea to incorporate an audio video component to the project. I'd love it if those of you who were so inclined to help out could help toss some ideas around about how to make such a thing happen- reliably and cost effectively.
The basic premise was to have a few spots where people can walk by or manipulate something in the environment that would trigger an audio loop or video projection. Obviously, audio would be easier, and i was thinking of doing something with traffic/ pedestrian sounds, or a little descriptive audio track professing the vision of the project.
My ideas always lean more towards the experimental, so any input from more grounded individuals would be helpful. Also, if anyone has experience with motion sensors or disposable dv cameras (Luke?) let me know.
