• Transportation Services

There's Chapel Hill free bus service. But that's not enough for everything. This is an issue in dire need of some ideas and work.

  • A shuttle service for the exclusive use of sponsored sprinters will be operated by Marine Science employees using their departmental van. A round trip from the Hampton Inn to the classroom in this van takes almost an hour due to stoplights, etc.
  • The two Marine Sciences vans will run and be driven by hired grad students. One van is 12 passenger, the other 7 passenger. That doesn't cover everyone staying at the Hampton Inn. Plus the seven passenger will be dedicated to the sponsored sprinters during the BBQ Sprint.
  • The buses only run until about 8pm at latest. (All Buses are free in Chapel Hill.) There's a warning out about reduced bus schedules the week of Camp 5 due to spring break.

Here is the map of the "D" bus which runs between the Hampton Inn and Kerr Hall.  Trip time one way between Hotel and Kerr Hall is about 40 minutes. Look at both the map and the schedule. The landmarks indicate approximate time of bus departure from each landmark (numbered 1 to 12) However there are more stops than 12. For example, if one gets on the bus at landmark 6 (Europa Dr at Sheraton Hotel, near Hampton Inn) they will need to disembark at a stop somewhere between landmark 10 and 11 and take a short walk to Kerr Hall.

Here is the bus schedule for the "D" bus.

  • Out of town guest transport is needed both to and from the Rock fest on Friday March 16th

  • Frank DiMauro  and Brad Crittendon are willing to provide additional transportation services for the Pig Pickin'  /  Rock festival Friday March 16, 2007.  Frank and Brad will each secure vehicles for the evening  that can transport 10 passengers per trip but we will need more wheels and volunteers to ensure people get to and from both events efficiently and securely. If you wish to volunteer your Carpool services for Friday March 16th, please sign up here:

If any of you local Triangle attendees have connections with Triangle  limo services, Horton Transport, or the like, now is the time to call in your favors. Other suggestions, ideas or input welcome.

Please contact Frank if you can assist with transportation/car pooling for either or both of these evenings. As of today Feb. 14th, we have a little over 3 weeks to finalize this and Chris Calloway needs help.

(For all you Basketball fans, March 15 -16 are the first 2 days of the NCAA tournament so keep this in mind.)
