Think of any dotCity project as a social startup company. Currently, the focus of this group is on the .nyc group. As other cities join, we'll reorganize this space.

In New York, we're in the early stages of creating an organization that will administer the .nyc namespace. We need your help to get the word out, and get more people involved.

Responsibilities

The Development Working Group currently owns the following responsibilities. Its members may organize themselves in whatever way they deem necessary to meet these responsibilities

  • Raising public awareness and recruiting new members
  • Making sure our events are a success
  • Building alliances with existing groups

Development Projects

The following projects have been proposed as ways to meet this group's responsibilities. Click on any project to see what needs to be done.

Project: Connecting nyc Welcome Website

connectingnyc.org is our primary portal for new members of the dotCity community. Check out this project if you know how to make websites more inviting and user friendly.

Project: Internet Week nyc

We're planning a killer presentation and meet & greet for New York's annual Internet Week, June 3-10 2008. We'll need help planning all the fine details of this event.

Project: Third-Party Outreach

Our mission converges with the missions of a number of community groups and individuals. Help us develop a strategy for reaching out to all of them. Or just tell someone you know.

Project: Media Outreach

Coverage by the media is crucial to raising awareness. Help us get covered, whether you know a local reporter or are a journalist yourself.

Project: Calendar

We use a Google Calendar to track all of our events.  If you use Gmail, you can add us to your calendar.  We also need help keeping the calendar updated.

Project: Social Network Strategy

Help us decide the best way to go about establishing a presence in online communities.
