What will the eventual organization look like? ICANN needs to be assured that the namespace will be properly managed, and that the company won't fall apart.

This aspect of dotCity is a bit harder to generalize than the other aspects. We're going to focus on planning for .nyc for now, and hope that it serves as a useful case study for other groups.

Here's what we know:

  • We're a non-profit.
  • We're committed to allocating domain names according to principles of community service and civic involvement.
  • We want to push the limits of democratic governance of our resources, and experiment with open enterprise models.

Responsibilities

The Enterprise working group owns the following responsibilities. It's members may organize themselves in any way necessary to meet these responsibilities.

  • Devise a full business plan for the long term administration of the company
  • Devise a domain name allocation plan that meets legal standards, and the needs of the ICANN
  • Manage the finances of the current campaign
