IDEAS PROPOSED (Summary):

-- Regional facilitation trainings &/or national gathering
-- More clearly stated goals and specific objectives on homepage, similar to freedom center, currently they seem too abstract
-- GLAAD - style media watchdog mobilizations against stigma in media
-- e-newsletter for better communication on project activities between all hubs/chapters
-- Find a way to get ideas/help for local groups but remain sensitive to confidentiality (forums are not a good medium for this)
-- Provide advocacy resources like accurate info on ssdi applications, etc.
-- U.S. tour promo support manual
-- Some kind of phone support hotlines
-- Resource manual for national and local groups to find medication, clinics, therapy, etc.

What you'd like to see happen with the future of Icarus?

Ashley – one of the two founding members of the project, is excited that people are working with Icarus – works on publications, the support manual, art shows, media based stuff.

Madigan -- Brooklyn, old timer, turning this into collective, voluntary mutual aid, transparency, horizontalism, piloting NYC, relating to Fountain House in NYC, volunteer coordinating, distribution.

Madeleine -- Minneapolis -- 2 mos. ago, with Kristin, started Icarus group here, it is a cross between a support and activist/discussion group.

Leah -- Washington D.C. -- working with Icarus and the Freedom Center to get a 501c3 going, which will help to get money, and for the project to be official.

Seven -- been site member for 2 yrs, in Jan moved up to moderator, administrator, works on the new site, and has moved to Portland, Oregon to start the new chapter with a few folks.

Jessica -- NY person but in Portland right now, helped with art show, speak out, support group, helped create the hub activist support model from NY group.

Will -- writing, grant reports, web administrator, working on new site, public speaking, connected with the Freedom Center in Western MA.

Empties -- lives in Canada, but will be moving to Portland, Oregon, is a moderator/administrator of the site.

Overview of what's going on with The Icarus Project:

Will -- A transitioning into the new website, cleaner more accessible, Ttransitioning to more participatory group with less founder focus, want more people involved in figuring out how to spend money.

Ashley --How accountable is the decided and who is accountable? We want less “us and them”, less focus on 4 people, less NY centric, more growth everywhere.

Madigan -- We don't really have our own 501c3 status yet, want to make Icarus part of a movement bldg, FJC -- we get donations through them, they resource for us. We have opportunity with FH of getting budget a for 2007 that could be $100,000.00


To Everyone -- what would your vision be with this grant money?

Jessica -GLAAD -- whenever there's offensive movie or book, lot of press releases, pickets, letters -- media watchdog organization

Seven-- clearly stated goals on front of site; better communication between groups (electronic newsletter), have trainings for core facilitators in different cities.

Madeleine --have some way to talk about specific situations that come up over and over again, confidentiality, creating specific resource page for areas or national.

Leah -- money to free up people to do work in more sustainable way. US tour of support manual.

Empties --support phone line, what are technicalities of this, calling for free via software/number.

Jonah -- working closely with Will, Edgard, and Seven on next generation of site, allow people to admin it, work with collective to use communication tools to have better transparency, OpenPlans.org -- like a wiki for agenda's meeting notes on site.

NEXT: AUGUST 15 CONFERENCE CALL 5pm est. (4pm midwest, 2pm west coast)
