Planning workshop for the 2008 iCommons Summit in Johannesburg from the 16th to the 18th of January

This workshop is kindly being funded from our Local Context Global Commons Ford Foundation Project which means that we will be able to have meetings about this project before we start the Summit Programme workshop on the 17th. If you are interested in participating in the Ford project, you are welcome to attend the meetings on the 16th - otherwise you will have to arrive on the 16th to start meetings on the morning of the 17th (itinerary below).

The goal of the planning workshop will be map out the most innovative programme possible for the 2008 Summit in Sapporo, with the following themes being covered:

  • Inspiration: A look at some of the world’s best conferences and events and what makes them so successful;
  • iCommons goals for the Summit: Brainstorming around the core goals of the iCommons Summit. What have been the main ‘themes’ around the global commons over the past year? What themes exist that are not being discussed? What are the critical topics that have global impact vs those that are locally specific?
  • Target audiences: A look at the different target audiences for the Summit and what they aim to achieve from attending the Summit;
  • Brainstorming around the core ‘tracks’ at the Summit i.e. inspire, debate, learn, show and create, and the CCI Legal Day. Does this cover everything that needs to be achieved? How can we design these tracks creatively with maximum impact?
  • Track design: Group work to script the tracks and develop a process for maximum community involvement;
  • Project plan: Develop a project timeline for responsibilities going forward.
