Lustre Village
last modified August 4 by Bunj
Planning area for Lustre Village, a collection of theme camps in Black Rock City.
Lustre Village is a collection of several theme camps that is constructed (and deconstructed) every year at the annual Burning Man event that takes place in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. The camps each have their own infrastructure and planning processes, but they also share infrastructure and work together to create a reasonably cohesive and welcoming experience for any participants lucky enough to wander in.
As of 2008, the following camps are slated to be a part of Lustre Village:
- GlitterCamp
- Cosmic Recess
- Angels of Gartitude
- Chai Love camp (Name in transit!)
Where will we be?
The Placement gods have shone on us once more - we're on the Esplande at 3:30
2008 will be Lustre Village's 4th year of existence, but its origins go back much farther. Glitter Camp was originally a part of Gigsville (then called Whirligig Village) in 1998. Gigsville was (and still is) mostly comprised of Southern Californian fuckos. Glitter Camp and a handful of other camps consisting of Northern Californians were a part of Gigsville's "NorCal Ghetto". In 2003, some of these Ghetto-ites, led by the infamous "Sleazy" Dave Marr, AKA Dave Marrvelous decided to become YAGSG (Yet Another Gigsville Splinter Group), and Sanctuary Village was formed.
Sanctuary proved to be a wonderful home for the Glitterati in 2003 and 2004, but by then the core group had grown to the point where they decided to perform another round of "themecamp mitosis", to move on and develop their own village. Thus, Lustre Village was born. We haven't forgotten our fucko roots, though, and just because we can often be found naked and covered with glitter you should NOT mistake us for hippies. We've been known to eat hippies...
Thanks for showing up, and if you make it to Black Rock City this year, come pay us a visit!
