WHO WE ARE
MACG's organizing approach is based on the philosophy and model of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF). Industrial Areas Foundation is the oldest and largest network of community based organizing in the nation with affiliated organizations in 54 cities, including eleven on the west coast.
Metropolitan Alliance for Common Good is a broad-based organization of 29 religious congregations, labor union locals, and community-based organizations. It is driven by the belief that these Mediating Institutions must be strong because they are the cornerstones of a vibrant democratic society and hold the key to mending and reweaving the social fabric essential for strong families, healthy communities, and a just world.
PRIMARY GOALS
The Alliance, therefore has two primary goals:
- To help strengthen each member institution. This involves fostering organizational cultures that are Relational, Action-Oriented, and Reflective.
- To serve as a vehicle for member groups to act in the public arena with sufficient power for justice and common good.
