Add a Feed:

Detail experience of adding and managing feeds. This is an attempt to tighten up the workflow that surrounds "ADDING FEEDS"

Problem:

  1. The Add/Remove link on the current site is a little vague - its big and orange on the sidebar  but still not explicit in terms of what has to be done with it.
  2. On clicking the button the user is taken to a page that then has "search" "import" and "remove" tabs. Questions the user might have:
    1. What URL to put into the search box.
  3. The Add Feed search box is a little intimidating. The feedback loop on not getting any results is obscure.

Solution:

Put the add/manage feed functionality on the sidebar. This will allow the user to quickly get started on Melkjug or quickly manage their various feeds.

STEPS:

1. Add Feed: If a site as multiple feeds they appear as shown below.

2. Your Feeds: When feed is added it dynamically appears in this area.

The user sees:

  • a slider (using this the user is prompted to immediately set the feed level)
  • a checkbox (after having added the feed the user can choose to turn it on and off for the particular set of readings)
  • a delete feed button (this allows the user to perform the basic management of feeds up front. This button is available only when the user is logged in and can manage only their feeds)
  • an RSS link (this is a best practice to allow the user to go back to the site that the feed is coming from)

QUESTION:

how do we want to order the feeds?
the ones turned on + alpha?

3. Guest Feed:  When a user is browsing another persons feeds and sees something they might be interested in adding, they can click on the green add button near the feed. This will prompt the Login lightbox if they are not currently logged in. If logged in the user will be taken to their account with the feed in their sidebar waiting to be calibrated. (is this the best option? can we add feeds and not leave this experience?) (what is the indicator when you already have a feed)
