NYCSR History

This is a page where we can keep older notes
FROM NATALIE (12/13/2005): I think that while we all
understand and relate to public space jargon, that if we want to be
successful (especially with locally-based organizations throughout the
5 boros) we need to pin down more concrete goals and wording. WHO are
we asking to do WHAT? We should clarify the kind of changes we are asking for and how
we expect them to happen, while including one principle that explicitly
states our commitment to locally-initiated context sensitive solutions.

Per my e-mail, I think we need to clarify a bit about what we are asking people to sign on to, and what does signing on mean:
From
Mark: I think it mean that they agree to be a supporter and have their
name appear on our website. That they generaly agree with our
prinicpals.
FROM MARK:
Here is my suggestion for a first pass at the principals that people sign on to when they sign on to the NYCSR:
- Restore balance to our streets.
- Rethink our streets as public spaces.
- Recover lost uses of our streets.
- Reshape our streets through citizen and community empowerment.
This is a first draft. Please let me know what you think. -Mark

OK. Since signing supporters up for the NYCSR is a big deal. I have decided to put up a special page to keep track of our progress.

The
NYCSR is moving along. The website is up. The booklet is out. We are
burning DVD's for the press/promo packet. Even new.openplans.org is
psuedo functional. We need to get the momentum for the big launch on
Feb 7th at the municipal arts society. We need to sign up as many
groups and people as possible in order to turn the opening from a nice
party to a major media event.
- First, we need to get a
statement of prinicpals for the NYCSR for people to sign on to. Paul
said that he would take a crack at this. Paul, any progress?
-
Then we need to get as many groups as possible to sign on. I think RPA
and Times Square Alliance have already agreed to sign on. When can we
make this official?
