Looks like our first "due" date will be:

September 17 (Monday)

Do everything in the calendar up to and including R2 / Project 0.

Since the ocw stuff is kind of scattered around, here's an attempt to break it down into a task list in order:
If anybody can make better sense of the syllabus & calendar, please edit this page :-)

  1. Start Project 0 (basically getting Scheme set up ... I figure you'll want to do this first)
MIT's flavor of scheme is  here
  2. read lecture 1 pdf (according to the syllabus, the lecture notes are intended to be read before each lecture ... not sure why, AFAICT it's exactly the same material)
  3. view Lecture 1 in xTutor ... note that confusingly, in xtutor they are called "chapters".
  4. read section 1.1 of the text and do the exercises included with it.
  5. read lecture 2 pdf,
  6. view Lecture 2 in xTutor
  7. do the lecture problems for chapter 2 in xTutor : "Lambda evaluations (Due: 2/6, 9am)"
  8. go to xtutor and do  the first Problem Set: "Beginning Scheme (Due date: 2/10 )"  ...  I can't provide a direct link because, annoyingly, xtutor uses http POST for navigation.  Note this also includes the lecture problems you already did.
  9. complete Project 0 ... it wants you to save a file to submit to xtutor, but the Open Courseware version of xtutor doesn't do Project uploads (that part was for handing in assignments electronically to actual TA's - doesn't apply to us)

We don't really have Recitations (R1, R2, etc)  or Tutorials, so basically, use the mailing list to ask each other questions.
Maybe we should have an IRC channel too?

October 3 (Wednesday) - "Week 2"

  1. Read textbook section 1.2
  2. View lecture 3 and do any lecture exercises in xtutor.
  3. View lecture 4 and do any lecture exercises in xtutor.
  4. Do problem set 2.  (Or is this the beginning of week 3?)
  5. No "Projects" due this week, but it might be good to have a look at project 1 (pdf) which will be due in week 3.
