Updates

  • 10/4/07: Project put onto iteration tracker.

Summary

We are building the front end for collaborative map editing, ultimately to be integrated into OpenPlans.

Mission-driven objectives

We want to do it because it would be valuable tool for geographically localized activism, e.g. NYCSR.  Also, by making it easier for projects to be tied to a particular place, this will lower activation energy for new users interested in getting involved somewhere in Fooville.

User stories

Story pending.

Technical & functional objectives

  • Get a version of OpenLayers that looks and feels as much like Google MyMaps as possible
  • Go beyond Google MyMaps by allowing users to see changelogs, view version diffs, and perform rollbacks.

Long-range summary

Long range vision pending.

Online resources / who to talk to / current features this is related to

Resources who are also people:
  • Cholmes, geoserver master.
  • Tschaub, OpenLayers master
  • C(h)dwinslow and Arne, the badass back end team.
Resources that are not people:
  • Books on JavaScript, etc.
  • Anemic OpenLayers docs

How we plan to do this

(1) Implement a slick Wiki-editable map front end.
(2) ?
(3) Profit

Initial tasks

  • Undo/Redo control - tim
  • Improve the workflow on tschaub's wfs-v example - seb
  • allow users to call feature-specific histories in a popup - seb
  • commune with spirits to revive the geo.openplans.org server - anyone
