  • Petrolink to Release his WITSML applications for free and Open Source

    Dubai, Nov 19 - Mr. Jon Curtis, CEO of Petrolink, have announced during the witsml conference held there that his company is delivering the client and sever application of a freeware base immediately and will shortly be followed by the release in Open Source agreement. The release of the open source is expected for the beginning of next year and will include all the source code to run a 1.2.0 and 1.3.1 WMLS.
    Mr. Jon Curtis have also announced the publication of a website, www.witsml.net which is meant to host public discussions, forum and the free software and open source software for download. The registration is of coarse free of any charge and include the availability of the Petrolink commercial chatting system, traveled over secure socket. 
    This initiative, have said Mr. Jon Curtis, is meant to promote the usage of the WITSML across the entire E&P community, reducing the startup costs of the service companies and operators to the grown zero. The CEO of Petrolink, which has been active in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Indonesia and Italy to promote the adoption of the standard have specified, asked about this unusual decision: the Petrolink core business has been alway the service, our income is not and will not come from a solution, we are not selling any software, we concentrate on providing our costumers with the best in class service ever possible.
    The entire WITSML community present in Dubai have welcome the initiative with comments ranging from the absolute surprise to the absolute interest. This is an innovation in the standard that will not miss to leave a significative change in the evolution of the standard itself.
