Getting Online
last modified March 9 by esteele
The wireless network at the Nittany Lion Inn should be wide open or otherwise self-explanatory. However, if you're in a different building for a sprint or other activity, you'll be using a separate network: Penn State's campus network. To use this one, you need a special client application. Here's how to get it:
- Connect to the wireless network "pennstate".
- Go to https://www.work.psu.edu/access/vpn/. (make sure you use 'www'!)
- Download the correct version of the Cisco VPN software.
- Install it. (On a Mac, just run the installer package.)
- Launch the VPN client. ''Make this more specific.'' (On a Mac, it's at /Applications/VPNClient.)
- Double-click "ITS Wireless at University Park".
- Enter your username and password when prompted.
Known issue
In an overzealous attempt at security, the VPN client prevents local routing. So, for instance, if you have virtual machines arranged in a private network on your laptop, you will be unable to access them via that network. You'll have to close the VPN connection to access them.Other links in this PloneSymposiumEast wiki
