How to start blogging
last modified October 22, 2007 by MattBowen
- Get a WordPress blog
- Get a WordPress account and your blog comes with it
- Be sure to ask for a blog, and not just a username
- Pick a good title and domain for your blog. Shorter domains are easier to remember
- If you're going to blog mostly about Plone, go ahead and put it in your domain and blog name, like the great Sample Plone Blog
- Be sure to include your blog in technorati and public searches
- Once you're setup, go ahead and pick a nice theme and write a little about your blog and yourself in the about section of your blog (possible through the dashboard). You might even add some other plone bloggers to your blogroll.
- Join Technorati and claim your blog
- Create your Technorati account
- Claim your blog
- Enter the url you picked when you setup your blog as the URL of your blog
- Use the Quick Claim option, because it's much easier since you're already using wordpress
- Describe your blog, and give it some good keywords (e.g., Plone, Python, Web Design, CSS, Open Source)
- Get yourself added to the Plone Planet
- Create a new ticket in the plone.org tracker
- The login it asks for is the same as your login to Plone.org
- Give your blog's title and the address of your Plone-related RSS feed in the Full description
- Tip: If you're going to blog about more than just Plone, you can give the planet your posts about Plone by giving them all the tag "plone". If you do so, your plone-related posts will have a URL like this one (just substitute your blog name): http://sampleploneblog.wordpress.com/tag/plone/feed/
- Categorize your ticket as Planet Plone
- Post like crazy!
- Honestly, it's good to give yourself a schedule and post regularly. Frequent, short posts are a sure way to go.
