  • Weekly Woonerf, the bi-weekly edition

    from nickyg on 2008-04-18 17:09
    Hey everyone,

Here's the latest on Woonerf, Livable Streets, and OpenPlans, all
    rolled into one convenient package.

    Woonerf design update
Phil, with Carly's help, has been making great progress on the visual
design. He's been working broadly across the various sites; here are
(most of) the (pretty much) latest mockups:
    Streetsblog homepage: http://skitch.com/philipashlock/e6y2/ideation-7
    Streetsblog article: http://skitch.com/philipashlock/jrdu/storypage
    Streetfilms homepage: http://skitch.com/philipashlock/j2nn/streetfilms-frontpage
    Streetfilms video: http://skitch.com/philipashlock/j2ne/streetfilms
    Group summary page: http://skitch.com/philipashlock/j13s/group-summary-nav-althead

Phil and Chris P will begin implementing the new design next week,
after which we'll resume weekly updates of the staging sites so
    everyone can see the progress.

    Schedule for woonerf deployment
I have been working on a deployment schedule for Woonerf; I know this
is something people are understandably concerned about. Over the next
few days, I'll be getting estimates from various folk for the
remaining pieces of work, after which we'll put that together into a
schedule. I had been hoping to have that schedule ready for the end
of this week, but that wasn't possible, so expect an update on that by
    the middle of next week.

    Deploying Woonerf code to OpenPlans.org
On Wednesday, Tim began testing http://stage.openplans.org. We are
hoping to deploy the current set of changes to the live site next
Wednesday, 4/23, pending results of the testing. Woohoo!

    Streetswiki content coming in
The streetswiki content team has been adding pages to the content
site. Take a look at http://streetswiki.livablestreets.com/streetswiki
Starting this week, we will be addressing some of the issues they've
raised (a few bugs, a few enhancements). See
At this point, it's looking very likely that streetswiki will end up
rolling out at the same time as the rest of Woonerf, since the few
remaining tech issues are relatively minor

    Wiki improvements
On Wednesday, Sonali began working on a round of improvements to the
project wiki. Improvements to the wiki have been a long time coming,
so this is really exciting. You can see the outline/plan that she's
    developing here:
    http://www.openplans.org/projects/streets/wiki-navigation
Right now, it's mostly a study of where the wiki is at (user testing
results, comparison to similar products, etc.). Next week, she'll be
making the plan more concrete, and will start designing a set of short-
term improvements that we'll implement immediately.

    Geocoding
Paul is resuming work on adding geocoding to OpenPlans people and
    projects. Woohoo!

    Meeting with T4America
On Tuesday, Aaron and I had another meeting with the folks from
T4America about possible collaboration between us. If you haven't
seen it yet, you should read Vanessa's blog post about it here: http://www.openplans.org/projects/topp-office/blog/2008/04/16/taking-the-renaissance-national/
       Thanks Vanessa!
At this point, there's really nothing concrete to report; we're still
getting to know each other, and are just very broadly discussing ways
we might work together. But I will report more on that as things
    develop.

    Have a great weekend!

    Nick

I've created a page on openplans to list the most current mockups for
    woonerf:
