    Thread Outline:
  • And now the real message...

from derek on May 20, 2007 10:11 PM
I just committed the uuid integration for Atom to Vice. w00t!

I was able to create an atom feed for a folder and one file and see it in
thunderbird. I then added a second file and saw it, too. Every entry and only
the entries. This means that the uuids seem to be working correctly.

Liz, I probably broke the RSS 1.0. When you get a chance, please find me on
#vice and we'll chat about how I can diagnose and fix what I broke...

uuids have been a huge pain! It is so good to have them done! Hopefully, other
issues will move quicker than uuids have. ;)

The real gsoc begins in 8 days (May 28) and I am hoping that outbound
syndication will eat as little of that time as possible. I know it will eat
some, given the slowness of progress so far, but hopefully it won't eat too
much. I still hope to get some substantial inbound syndication work done this
    summer.

Also, I have requested that my work sponsor me for the Boston Multimedia Sprint.
I should know within a few days whether I'll be able to go. If I do, it would be
great to see others there. There's two days of training with Rocky Burt
beforehand, for those who find training easier than sprints to sell to
    management.

Excellent news Derek. I witnessed Liz's progress on Friday - she was
not only syndicating RSS 1.0 using vice in z3, but it was valid
      according to w3c's validator!

FWIW - here are the URL's for the aforementioned sprint:
        http://plone.org/events/sprints/plone4artists and the training:
      http://plone.org/events/training/zope-3-in-plone

Derek - I can't seem to time it right to find you on #vice. It would
be great to update our open plans pages with a bit about the status
of the project, and what needs to be done next. I'd be happy to
help, but need your input for content :)

      Thanks,
      Paul

It would be great if more folks would come to the Plone4Artists sprint
to work on Vice. Add your name to the participants list if you're
        interested in coming!
        http://plone.org/events/sprints/plone4artists/participants

We're very interested in using Vice for podcasting, and publishing
multimedia content via RSS/Atom. Right now we're using basesyndication
developed by Tim Hicks (cc'ed) but I think his roadmap is to
discontinue basesyndication and roll the functionality into Vice. Tim
        - correct me if I'm wrong here?

Nope, you're absolutely right there Nate. I'm very much looking forward
to retiring base/fatsyndication in favour of Vice :).

And I'd like to point out publicly that Tim has been very supportive of Vice and
that we appreciate his help and contributions (particularly, the public domain
basesyndication code, which provided a great starting point at the BBQ Sprint).

              Hi Derek,

I think Vincenzo Barone (organizer of PloneConf 2007), would be
interested in helping you with Vice at the P4A sprint. At the Sorrento
sprint, he worked on adding iTunes metadata to the podcasting feeds. I
think he is also planning to come to the sprint in Boston.
