While looking through the open 0.96 tickets today, I noticed there are several new plugins that have been attached to tickets and which have largely been ignored. Specifically, I found: Media, a plugin for inserting various types of media, e.g., QuickTime movies, sound files, flash files, etc. Also supports playlists, interestingly enough. - Ticket: http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/1168 - See also: http://www.jljsolutions.co.uk/xinha.html FlashEdit, for embedding Flash files. This actually saw a decent amount of activity when it was first opened three years ago... - Ticket: http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/669 - See also: http://xinha.webfactional.com/ticket/685 OpenUrl, for opening and editing webpages inside of Xinha. - Ticket: http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/996 New Character Map plugin, a replacement for the current character map plugin that has better support for Celtic languages, and a few other updates. - Ticket: http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/1235 These are in various states of completion (and since they're pretty old, I believe they all use the old popup dialogs). For the meantime, I've moved from 0.96 to 1.0. However, in the longer term, it might be a good idea to 1) assess just how far along/good these plugins are, and 2) contact their authors if possible and ask if they're interested in completing/updating them so they can be checked into the respository. Thoughts? -Nicholas

That sounds great, but do we actually have contact info for these people? (I'm hoping it's embedded in the plugins.) If not, and they haven't left it in the tickets, we're kind of out of luck. Like you brought up before, it makes me wish it was easier for people to sign up for trac accounts... This is the sort of thing that people would lave to have included. Hello, the media plug-in development ground to a bit of a halt for a couple of reasons. 1) I've only done solo work, so when asking about how to contribute I may have scared James by my total lack of knowledge/experience with svn etc. So I think he could have been reticent (probably quite rightly) in giving me a developer password (or whatever it is you need). I did manage to produce (after some coaching) a valid diff against the trunk of the time (dunno if he still has this - must have been 0.96). 2) there was some question about whether my work could be allowed within Xinha as I've admitted to using a plugin within Tiny-MCE as a concept base (the two licenses aren't compatible). The finished product is however (obviously) significantly different from the Tiny-MCE version - in terms of code if not look - which can obv be changed. On that note the playlist work may-not be admissible as the flv player is only free if used for non-commercial products. I know there are absolutely free flv players out there that I could implement, but not so sure about playlists. Other than that the plug-in (as far as 0.96 was concerned) is ready to go failing input from other developers. It relied on some changes with plugins 'ContextMenu', 'ExtendedFileManager' and 'DoubleClick' so someone would need to review these with the newer versions. I'm willing to address this again as and when I have time if people are interested. It's received positive feedback from people who have downloaded it. With regard to FlashEdit, I was the last person to have a go at doing something with it I think (http://trac.xinha.org/ticket/1097), it was my first attempt at playing with a xinha plug-in. It's a bit of a mess, but I used a couple of bits for the Media plug-in, If Media gets up and running it won't be needed, the only advantage is that I got it working with script detection/placement instead of an old school embed, but I think I could get this going in Media if I could be bothered. Hope this sheds some light, John On Oct 14, 2008 04:02 PM, Nicholas Bergson-Shilcock wrote: > While looking through the open 0.96 tickets today, I noticed there are > several new plugins that have been attached to tickets and which have > largely been ignored. TinyMCE (and the TinyMCE plugin you used, I assume; do you know if this is indeed the case?) is released under the LGPL. Assuming you keep the original licensing/copyright information, and release your additions under the LGPL, there shouldn't be any conflict with using it as a Xinha plugin (we already have a couple of Xinha plugins released under the LGPL, actually). > On that note the playlist work may-not be admissible as the flv player is only > free if used for non-commercial products. Hello, I'm delighted to hear that the Media plugin is being looked at again. Is there anything I can do to help? My company's product uses Xinha, and we'd love to get the Media plugin integrated and released. Would a little funding help move this along? Thank You, Troy
