I have been thinking about calling the next version 1.0 or even 2.0 (to be bold) instead of 0.96 to reflect our recent advancement. What do you think? ray

I'm amenable to this, as it has changed greatly since 0.95. I think both 1.0 and 2.0 are big steps, and have slightly different connotation. 1.0 seems more like a, "Hey Everybody, Xinha is ready" kind of a version, while 2.0 says to me, "This is already stable software we're adjusting our numbering to reflect reality". I know that's an awful lot to read from a number, but that's kind of how I see it. I'm not sure which is the correct one to go with, though... Hold on, I use 0.95 for all my stuff. I've never even bothered to download the nightly build. Is there THAT much difference? But I'm not strongly against moving straight to 1.0, so if others do feel strongly, I'm ok with it. Otherwise I'd say we should stick with 0.96, and then after the release decide on some key things we want to get done and set out on the road to 1.0. So, my vote is for either 0.96 or 1.0 (definitely not 2.0). -Nick However, > Doug > > On Nov 19, 2008, at 9:24 AM, Raimund Meyer wrote: > > > I have been thinking about calling the next version 1.0 or even 2.0 > > (to be bold) instead of 0.96 to reflect our recent advancement. OK, I have received an interesting opinion about the topic in a private mail that makes me withdraw my proposal. But still I'd like to have something to show this version is next generation. Maybe we could adopt the fashionable practice of having a fancy codename? Sorry, I meant to reply to this over the weekend. I think it's a great choice, so +1 from me as well...
