The fine WebLion folks at PSU have created this product called FacultyStaffDirectory which provides content types for creating and organizing personnel directories within educational institutions. It also integrates with Plone's users and groups infrastructure and supports an extensibility framework for custom requirements.

We plan to integrate this product more closely with CMFBibliography so that you can associate a faculty member which a collection of bibliographic items.
