Andrea Fondulas

Community Organizer, StreetopiaUWS

Andrea is a community organizer passionate about how New Yorkers connect with the shared public spaces around them and how they get there safely. She's a firm believer in human-centered storytelling as a tool for connection, using it to bring people with different opinions and knowledge levels into the same room and get them working toward a common goal. At StreetopiaUWS, Andrea brings that approach block by block, working with neighbors across the Upper West Side to build support for safer, more welcoming streets.

After years of working in legislation and public policy, Andrea was eager to get out from behind the desk and into the field, doing what she loved most: meeting people where they were. That pull toward the on-the-ground, human side of change led her to the livable streets movement, sparked in part by her fixation on long-neglected, unsafe intersections in her neighborhood.

Andrea holds a Bachelor's in Psychology and a Master's in Public and Urban Policy, a combination that comes in handy when convincing a room full of strangers to care about a crosswalk. When she's not organizing, you can almost certainly find her outside, either in Central Park looking for a rare bird or logging miles on the Hudson River Greenway training for the NYC Marathon. If you are ever in need of a bird identification, Andrea loves to receive messages with a grainy photo asking her, "What kind of bird is this?"
