Sara Lind
Sara Lind is Co-Executive Director at Open Plans, a nonprofit with the mission to transform how people experience New York City’s streets and public spaces. Sara oversees a team of 16 advocates, policy experts, creatives and development staff.
In her role as Co-Executive Director, she has guided major public policies, driven agendas in City Hall and in Albany, and has shaped narratives around some of the biggest discussions New York has had about how to make New York’s streets more livable, safer and joyful. This work includes her relentless and ultimately successful advocacy for Congestion Pricing – especially after its pause. Other victories include lifting parking mandates in the transformative City of Yes zoning text amendment, winning a permanent Open Restaurants program, expanding Summer Streets to every Borough, and the Mayor’s appointment of the first Chief Public Realm Officer. An often quoted expert in the media, Sara has helped lead a renaissance for New York’s streets with an ambitious and far-reaching vision for the future of New York.
Sara holds a JD from the University of Chicago, Master of International Affairs from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and a BS in Economics and Political Science from The University of Wisconsin.
