Meet Open Plans’ 2025 summer interns! (part 1)

We’re thrilled to be once again hosting a great group of interns this summer and today we’re introducing you to our interns from Fannie Lou Hamer High School and Brooklyn College. (You’ll meet our graduate student interns later this summer!)

After hearing Fannie Lou Hamer High School students speak at a rally, we connected with two students who were eager to get involved. As spring interns, Alex and Naasir helped us connect with residents and elected officials in their communities, helped us host schools block parties and did surveying and research on public space in their neighborhoods. We’re excited Alex and Naasir are staying on for the summer!

Our Brooklyn College interns come to Open Plans through the Urban Sustainability program, an ongoing relationship we are so grateful for. These college students work directly with our advocacy team, engaging directly with communities across New York City, encouraging neighborhoods to get involved, tabling at events across the five boroughs, attending rallies, and more.

These relationships are so enriching to our work at Open Plans and we love connecting with students just starting out their livability journeys! Learn a bit more about each intern below and join us in welcoming them for the summer!
