Open Plans Demands for Pause on Autonomous Vehicles in NYC

New York, NY — In response to news that New York City has granted Waymo permission to begin testing autonomous vehicles on city streets, Open Plans Co-Executive Director Sara Lind issued the following statement:

“New York City should not be treated as a playground for autonomous vehicle technology. More vehicles of any kind on the road does not make a single New Yorker safer. The City and State have an obligation to prioritize the safety of people walking, biking, other drivers, and all New Yorkers. We need to hit the pause button before more of these vehicles flood our streets.”
